IASCA AUDIO
THUNDER 2000
Toronto, Canada

First of all I have to say the manufacturer/dealer showcase sucked. No Phoenix Gold presence like last year, no Sony Autosound presence. The remaining floor space was filled up by a RC racetrack, arcade games an air hockey table in one corner and various shop demo cars that were locked up with no representatives around to show off the car or demo it. I didn't bother to take any pictures it was so pitiful. Chase Car Audio and 20Hz Audio were the only big local shops to pay any attention to the show. Mainly because they both are large and in charge in the Toronto soundoff circuit in IASCA and Slam Jam. |
Other manufacturer rep's that were there were from Audiobahn, Gemsen (JL Audio/Zapco), EH Electronics (AVI, Qupix, car mods) and Pioneer (Premier). |
Sound off Notes: |
Major IASCA glitch for SQ scoring where the scoresheets were last years sheets based on last years rules, so there was some confusion when they were being tallied which took alot of time. |
New Canadian SPL record was established by Team Audioworx http://www.audioworx.on.ca in their yellow Chevy Astro minivan SPL truck. They competed in the IDBL Ultimate 2 (721-2270) sq. in. category and posted a 170.05 dB reading. Powered by MTX. |
Best SQ score was a 161 by Jason Hancock. |
teamROCS Notables: |
Larry Chijner almost completed a clean sweep in at the show. He did take home 3 trophies though winning his class Pro 601+ and winning both Best Install and Best Overall Score of 342. Congratulations Larry. |
Larry as you may or may not know is a Team Pioneer member as well as a Team OHIO member. |
I'd also like to applaud our brothers over at Team OHIO that placed in the money as well. Congrats to Mark Liggett in Expert 601+, Rusty Gregg in Amateur 151-300 and Anthony Davis in Amateur 301-600. If I missed anyone else on the team I'm sorry and congratulations. |
Overall Impressions: |
This only being my second time attending a sound off I wanted to be sure to stick around for as much of it as I could. I spent the better part of 8 hours over 2 days looking at the soundoff area. Listened to Larry's red Caddy, went away impressed and disgusted. Impressed with his install and disgusted with mine :). Saw a few cool installs. Saw a couple of installs that must have been jokes, and saw quite a few dirty and beat up IDBL competition cars take a run at the meter. Saw some nice ones as well but you always remember the beat up ones most :) Like an old Pontiac Firefly with 4 15's in the rear hatch mounted to an unfinished box. |
Marc Richmond was here but I never really got a chance to meet him, hope to sometime this year if I can get to any more events. Though I saw alot of his work. Notable mention to Pat Gates who was in attendance. No sign of the Explorer or Bronco though, not that I would have expected it. |
I had a delightful experience just tweaking the knob of a Nakamichi CD-700 today. That while sitting in a Kennedy Hi-Fi designed Black BMW M3 sedan. That's gonna give me dreams tonight. :) |
