This disc is the normal 44.1 kHz 16 bit PCM variety, and does not contain any multimedia tracks. Although the mastering and recording were analog (AAD), the sound quality is surprisingly good, which is unusual for Rhino records. The Liner is chock full of notes including the history of funk, and little trivia bits about certain songs.

This CD is the head bobbin, finger snappin, leanin back and to the right, pimp daddy mackin album of the year. The onslaught begins with Brick "Howse", which quickly puts you in the mood. Then, the original version of "Love Rollercoaster" comes on (allot better than that Red Hot Chili Peppers rendition), and you realize that the rhythm of nodding your head has sped up. On up to track 15 where you start barking "Bow wow wow yippee yo yippee yay" with George Clinton (who would be a better president than that other Clinton). Finally, it ends with Rapper's Delight (Sugar Hill Gang), which is not only funk, but is also widely acclaimed as the first commercially played rap song. Although those in the know will tell you rap actually started years earlier in the disco's and house parties in Harlem, all us white people know it was invented 100 years ago in the backwoods of Texas....only we called it "Square Dancing".
